a short diary of some part of my life.

It’s been almost a year since I got my beloved Nikon D700.

I’m still loving it from the first day I picked it up. The camera has performed flawlessly. I never had any problem with it. The image quality it produces is superb, as expected from a full frame sensor.

Eventhough now there are few new features, like video in newer digital SLRs, I never really bother buying one, but I’ll probably purchase one (D5000) for my curiosity sake. I’m going to use the D700 until it breaks or until something extraordinary is made, just like the Nikon D3 when it was first released. Taking pictures with it is simply an amazing experience, especially when paired with Zeiss 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar.

Initial thoughts / short review of the D700:

– The D700 is slightly heavier and bulkier than D300.

– The viewfinder is bigger and brighter than the D300, I’m fine with 90% coverage.

– The high ISO is as good as what you’d expect from a D3 sensor.

– I don’t like the CF card door, I prefer something like a D300 CF card door latch.

– The info button is very useful and intuitive.

– The rubber flap that covers the USB and HDMI ports is not closed properly or not as snug as the D300.

– The in-camera AF motor is as fast as the D300.

– And, I find the focusing is noticeably slower under low light condition. Under bright light, the focusing is faster than my D300.
