a short diary of some part of my life.

My car was leaking oil during my recent roadtrip. It never crossed my mind that the oil filter was leaking. Once I jacked the car up, I found out that the nut that is welded on top of the oil filter was leaking oil. I lost almost half of my engine oil before I notice it was the oil filter. And no, I did not over-torqued the bolt, I did not even use the bolt to tighten it. I would never use any K&N product at this point. I had one of their high performance air intake in my car, it actually reduces some of my car low-end torque. The noise produced by the air intake is also unbearably harsh and cheap. AVOID using this filter at all costs.

Same here, on a Honda CBR600RR. Fortunately noticed it right away, as the leak was burning off on the headers. The insidious thing was, it didn’t develop until about 800 miles had elapsed.

Found your blog post while researching this issue. Will never trust this product again.

I have an K&N filter on my 2010 Subaru Forester, and I am going nuts trying to find a small, but noticeable, leak. Mine seems to be leaking from the welded on wrench flat portion of the filter, too. Hmmmmm….very interesting to see someone else is having the same problem as I am!

2010 CRV. K&N oil filter. Leaked the same place as yours. Lost 1 and 1/2 quarts before I traced the leak down Driving and changing my own oil since 1959. First time I ever had a filter fail. No more K&N for me. They are refunding my money for the filter. Total shock, still can’t believe it.

Reading you guys’ comments, 2014’s, I am baffled. K&N has not done anything to fix the issue? Wow…

I’ve been using the K&N oil filters on all my cars for a couple years. I discovered a oil leak on my wife’s 2015 WRX STi P# 1008 It’s leaking from the safety wire holes on the 1″ nut they weld on for tightening or taking off the filter. Like I said I have one of these filters on all 3 of our cars. This is the first one I’ve seen do this. And I’m very pleased with K&N products use their air filters on all three cars too. I’ll keep a eye on the other vehicles.

I had two of these filters fail back to back. The first one failed in a rural area and the only replacement I could find was of course another K&N. Avoid these things like the plague! Check out all the postings on this site:
